Just a Sanddollar from the Sea

Description

This sea turtle bronze sculpture by Eric Thorsen, Just a Sand Dollar from the Sea, captures a juvenile loggerhead sea turtle in its first moments of life. Newly hatched from a nest of eggs, the little turtle makes its way across the sand toward the ocean, passing a sand dollar and scattered seashells along the way.

About This Sea Turtle Bronze Sculpture

Eric Thorsen modeled the hatchling, the sand dollar and the seashells in fine detail, then cast the piece in bronze so the small scene keeps every ridge of the shell and flipper. It is a limited edition of only 195 castings.

At 5.5 inches long, 4 inches wide and 2 inches high, and weighing about a pound, the sculpture belongs to Eric Thorsen’s Mini Collection of small bronzes, sized for a desk, shelf or bookcase.

About Loggerhead Sea Turtles

Loggerheads are named for their large heads and powerful jaws. Hatchlings emerge from nests buried in sandy beaches and head straight for the water, the moment this piece portrays. You can learn more about the species from NOAA Fisheries.
