Marsh Glide

Description

A great blue heron glides low over a still marsh, its broad wings raised mid-stroke and long legs trailing behind. Warm light catches the bird’s golden bill and pale neck, while the water below mirrors a big Western sky full of drifting clouds.

Eric Thorsen paints the scene with loose, energetic strokes of oil paint, flecks of ochre, umber and sky blue that capture both the stillness of the wetland and the effortless motion of the heron in flight.
