SOMETHING TO QUAIL ABOUT!

From 3D Printer to Bronze — These Quail Are Award-Winning Birds!

There’s been a little bird convention at Eric Thorsen Gallery, and judging by the crowd gathered on the workbench, attendance was mandatory!

These handsome little quail have been lining up, showing off their fancy feather patterns, sporting their signature head plumes, and waiting patiently for their moment in the spotlight. And for once, every bird in the flock is a winner!

But these aren’t your ordinary backyard birds. They’re custom bronze awards, created using a combination of modern 3D printing technology and traditional bronze casting.

The journey began in the digital world, where the quail designs were prepared for 3D printing. Once printed, the models made their way through the bronze casting process, trading their plastic beginnings for something a little more permanent — solid bronze!

Then came the fun part: bringing these feathered fellows to life with detailed finishing and beautiful patinas. With their blue-gray coloring, distinctive markings, and proud little poses, these quail have more personality than a room full of politicians. And considerably better hairdos!

Of course, getting a whole flock to cooperate is no small feat. Fortunately, bronze quail have a few advantages over the real thing. They don’t fly away, they don’t need feeding, and they’re remarkably good at standing still while we work.

Each bird was created as a special award, proving that trophies don’t have to be boring gold cups gathering dust on a shelf. Why settle for an ordinary trophy when you can have a beautifully sculpted bronze quail with enough personality to make the other awards jealous?

At Eric Thorsen Gallery, we love projects like these because they bring together the best of both worlds: the possibilities of 3D printing and the timeless beauty of bronze casting. Whether it’s one special award or an entire flock, a creative idea can become something worth showing off.

And as for these little guys? They’ve officially graduated from the printer, survived the bronze casting process, and earned their bronze feathers.

No participation trophies here. These birds are the real deal!
