Bostrychoceras

Description

Bostrychoceras is a bostrychoceras sculpture by Eric Thorsen: a Bostrychoceras, an ancient cephalopod with a spiraling corkscrew shell. It is part of his paleobiology series on ancient cephalopods.

About This Bostrychoceras Sculpture

Bostrychoceras is a heteromorph ammonite with a shell that spiraled like a corkscrew, much like a snail. Fossils show only the shell, so Thorsen’s reconstructions imagine the living animal, its body and tentacles restored around the shell as it might have looked in ancient seas. The series makes a fascinating collection for fossil lovers, museums, classrooms and anyone curious about life in deep time.
