Mountain Lion

Description

A mountain lion pads forward through fresh snow, its gaze fixed on something just out of frame. Eric Thorsen renders the cat’s tawny coat with warm oranges, deep crimsons and touches of violet, set against an abstract background of cool grays and whites with small bursts of color.

The contrast between the carefully observed face and the loose, contemporary brushwork gives this painting a modern energy while honoring the stealth and grace of North America’s great cat.
