Orthoceras
$1,900.00
A sculpted reconstruction of an Orthoceras, an ancient cephalopod with a long, straight shell, from Eric Thorsen’s paleobiology series on ancient cephalopods.
Description
Orthoceras is a orthoceras sculpture by Eric Thorsen: an Orthoceras, an ancient cephalopod with a long, straight shell. It is part of his paleobiology series on ancient cephalopods.
About This Orthoceras Sculpture
Orthoceras fossils are among the most familiar of all ancient cephalopods, often polished and sold as long, straight shells set in stone. Fossils show only the shell, so Thorsen’s reconstructions imagine the living animal, its body and tentacles restored around the shell as it might have looked in ancient seas. The series makes a fascinating collection for fossil lovers, museums, classrooms and anyone curious about life in deep time.
