Sleep

Description

Sleep captures a woman surrendered completely to rest. Draped over a rugged outcrop of rock, her body arcs gracefully across the stone, one arm hanging loosely toward the base and her long hair spilling downward. A flowing length of fabric sweeps over her back and falls away in deep, rippling folds, while a broad curve of drapery wraps around the rock below, drawing the eye in a continuous circle through the composition.

Eric Thorsen contrasts the smooth, warm bronze of skin and cloth with the rough, deeply textured stone, finished in rich copper tones accented by soft verdigris. The result is a quiet, dreamlike piece that invites viewers to slow down and linger. Mounted on a turned bronze base over black marble with a “Sleep” nameplate, it brings timeless figurative elegance to a desk, mantel, or pedestal.
