Ribbon

Description

Ribbon captures a single band of bronze in mid-motion, twisting, folding, and looping back on itself as if caught by a gust of wind. The form rises from a narrow base, swells into a broad sweep, then curls through open space in a continuous figure-eight, so that inside and outside, front and back, flow seamlessly into one another.

Eric Thorsen contrasts polished, satin-smooth edges with a richly textured surface, letting warm copper tones glow through a deep brown patina wherever the light falls. Each turn of the sculpture reveals new negative spaces and shifting silhouettes, rewarding viewers who walk around it. Mounted on a black marble base, Ribbon brings graceful, modern energy to a desk, shelf, or entry table.
